Silver Lining: Determination – CrossFit

WP Daily Prompt: Write about something you consider “ugly” — war, violence, failure, hatred — but try to find beauty, or a sense of hope, in your thoughts.

My son advanced to compete in a state level CrossFit competition. CrossFit consist of “constantly varied functional movements performed at relatively high intensity”. Any and everyone can take part in CrossFit, you just have to possess the determination to complete what you start.

I did a workout with the team, felt the burn (oh, did it ever burn), and made “ugly faces”, but afterwards I felt like I accomplished something. It’s hard work, but the silver lining in all this is….it is so worth it.

During the competition I saw the remnants of two Kettlebells laying on the ground, broken…how in the world do you break an all cast-iron Kettlebell? (picture included in collage)

Weekly Photo: Patterns in Portland, Oregon

Sandy Blvd_edited-1-3

Portland, OR
Portland, OR

I lived in the Portland area for 6yrs and took many photographs around the city. Funny thing is, I never noticed this building until after I moved away and returned for a brief visit. Spotted this building while driving down Sandy Blvd, (the Hollywood neighborhood) on my way to the Portland airport (PDX). Go figure.

It’s a gorgeous building, but I did not see a name on it, so I’m not sure if it’s a church or  just an ornate looking building. Gotta check it out on my next trip.

Or, if by chance someone from Portland sees this picture and know of this building, please feel free to comment and tell me what the building is used for…is it a church?
